2010 WCup stadiums almost ready – S.African officials

Once a headache for the local organising committee, the 10 South African stadiums for the 2010 World Cup are now pride and joy as they are set to be ready on time for the football extravaganza.

Stadium construction faced many challenges, including strikes in July when more than 70,000 workers asked for salary hikes, countrywide blackouts in January 2008 that crippled the economy, budget deficits and sometimes unpredictable weather.

It has been a roller-coaster ride. Sometimes we were happy and most times saddened by the criticism and the pessimism but we always knew we would be ready on time, local organising committee spokesman Rich Mkhondo told AFP.

Mkhondo said five new and five renovated stadiums were now more than 95 percent complete and the final touches …

FA to investigate Euro 2020 final disorder

The Football Association (FA) will conduct a review into the unprecedented level of public disorder that marred Sunday s Euro 2020 final.

Italy beat England 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Wembley, although the hours building up to the game were dominated by scenes of unruly conduct on Wembley Way and in Leicester Square, both of which were left strewn with litter and debris.

That unrest was then wrought upon the match venue itself as supporters without tickets – successfully in some cases – attempted to enter the stadium.

The FA will work in association with the Metropolitan Police, who made 49 arrests in connection with the final.

We will carry out a full review and investigation into the events that took place at Wembley Stadium before and du…

Messi, Ronaldo miss out on Champions League positional awards for 2020-21

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not among the final nominees for the 2020-21 Champions League positional awards.

On Friday, UEFA announced the 12 players, three per position, who could win the individual prizes on August 26.

The 12 players each received the most points in each positional category following a jury vote. The jury comprised coaches from the 32 clubs that entered into the group stage last season, as well as 55 journalists representing UEFA s 55 member associations. Coaches could not vote for players from their own teams.

Messi came fourth in the poll for the best forwards, while Ronaldo did not make the top 10. Each player was eliminated at the last-16 stage, Barcelona losing to Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus to Porto.

Five of the 12…

Badstuber makes first appearance since 2012

Holger Badstuber made his long-awaited return to action on Friday as the Bayern Munich defender played his first game since 2012.

Badstuber played for an hour as the defending Bundesliga champions claimed a 3-0 win in a pre-season friendly with the Red Baroons fan club.

The 25-year-old s appearance marked the first time he has played in a game since rupturing a cruciate ligament against Borussia Dortmund in December 2012.

And his return went to plan as the Germany international got nearly 60 minutes under his belt in a comfortable victory for Bayern.

David Alaba was the star of the show with two goals, the first a cracker from 25 yards and his second a free-kick after 17-year-old midfielder Daniel Hagler had doubled the lead.

Bayern and Badstuber …

Raiders vs Steelers Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Can Vegas Handle Steelers' Pressure?

The Las Vegas Raiders trade the bright lights of Sin City for the unforgiving turf of Heinz Field in a Steel City showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2.

The NFL betting odds originally had Las Vegas as big as +6.5 for this cross-country 1 p.m. ET kickoff but an OT shocker over Baltimore on Monday has slimmed the Raiders as low as +5.5.

Pittsburgh flexed its defensive muscle in an upset over Buffalo last Sunday and now sets its sights on a banged-up Vegas side on a short week. Here are our free NFL picks and predictions for Raiders at Steelers on September 19.

Week 14 NFL Touchdown Props: Kelce Strikes Against Vegas

The touchdown market has become one of the most popular and potentially profitable props in the NFL betting world. Each week, we’re going to throw down three to five units as we try to uncover some of the best weekly NFL TD props and dig into the matchups that surround them.

We’re banking on the Texans giving up more touchdowns again this week, trying to find some value in a pair of backfields that are reshuffling, and playing a tight end in a plus-plus matchup.

Without further ado:

DeAndre Hopkins TNF Spotlight: Player Props for Thursday Night Football Week 7

Another Thursday, another week of looking for gag-inducing TNF picks with the injury-riddled New Orleans Saints visiting the pathetic offense of the Arizona Cardinals.

After witnessing the Commanders/Bears clash last week, trying to find compelling Saints-Cardinals props or betting storylines seems like an effort in vain. If only there was a juicy storyline or a savior to rush in and save us from another ho-hum game…

Dramatic pause. Looks to the sky. Sees a silhouette of a deity-like figure with dreadlocks.

Our prayers have been answered, as DeAndre Hopkins will make his season debut in Week 7!

For one week at least, we don’t have to bet on struggling (or backup) quarterbacks, a third-string wide receiver, or a star running back who largely get…

Week 5 NFL Teaser: Denver's Defense Struggles Against New York's Ground Game

I got back on track with my Week 4 teaser bet — barely thanks to the Eagles going to OT with the Commanders — but a win is a win. My teaser record on the season sits at an even 2-2 as we dive into the Week 5 odds.

This is a tricky slate as far as teaser bets are concerned as NFL odds have just one favorite in that coveted 6-to-8.5-point range that we can tease down inside of three points. There will be a lot of teasing up because of this, and thankfully there’s a handful of underdogs who I think will be competitive — Jason Logan’s NFL Week 5 predictions seemed to have had that same thought!

Below you will find my favorite NFL picks to tease for Week 5 where I always follow my basic teaser strategy of crossing as many key numbers a…

Jaguars vs Browns Odds, Picks, and Predictions Week 14: Browns Right the Ship vs. Jaguars

The battered Jacksonville Jaguars head to Ohio to face the Cleveland Browns in Week 14 odds. Both teams have fought through their share of injuries this season including the Jags losing franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence to an ankle injury last week.

With the likely absence of Lawrence on Sunday, NFL odds for this showdown have flipped, with lookahead lines installing Jacksonville as a 3-point favorite but now favoring the Browns at -3. Here are my best free NFL picks and predictions for Jaguars vs. Browns on December 10.
