Saka confident England can beat anyone at Wembley in round of 16

Bukayo Saka says England will be confident of beating whoever comes second in Euro 2020 s group of death at Wembley after beating the Czech Republic 1-0 to win Group D.

Raheem Sterling s early header was enough for Gareth Southgate s side to move above their opponents and finish the group stage without conceding a goal, an achievement they have only managed at two previous major tournaments.

The Three Lions will do battle with world champions France, Germany, holders Portugal or Hungary next Tuesday for a place in the quarter-finals.

Versatile Arsenal teenager Saka, so impressive in his first appearance at a major tournament after coming into the side along with Jack Grealish, Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker, says home advantage with a crowd of 45,000 can help driv…

Coyle flags Cahill sale

Bolton manager Owen Coyle says the club may have to sell Gary Cahill in January rather than risk losing him for nothing.

Against the odds, Bolton held on to the England international in August after a deal to join Tottenham collapsed on deadline day, while Chelsea have also emerged as contenders to sign the centre-back, allowing him to partner John Terry for club and country.

Coyle said he would prefer to keep Cahill at the club but admitted that he might be forced to part with the defender.

I would love to work with Gary Cahill every day of the week for as long as I could because he s a top player and a fantastic young man, Coyle said.

Sometimes things are taken out of your grasp. I ll wait and see what January brings.

Argentina: Key factors in reaching the final

A global superstar, an unlikely defensive hero and a tight-knit squad have helped Argentina to a first FIFA World Cup final for 24 years.

The South Americans had to do things the hard way, as they edged through 4-2 on penalties after 120 goalless minutes against Netherlands in Wednesday s second semi-final.

They will now meet Germany in Rio on Sunday, but what is the secret of their success at Brazil 2014?

Sabella ditching 5-3-2

Argentina’s dominance of the ever-gruelling CONMEBOL qualifying section came with coach Alejandro Sabella largely employing a 4-3-3 formation, drawing plenty from deep reserves of attacking talent. But Sabella has often favoured a conservative 5-3-2 during his career in club management and he reverted to type during the first ha…

Juventus v Inter: Podolski debut on ice

Inter are waiting on whether they can select new signing Lukas Podolski for Tuesday s Derby d Italia at Serie A leaders Juventus.

Germany international Podolski sealed his switch to San Siro from Arsenal over the weekend but was unable to train with his new team-mates due to paperwork not being completed.

It is hoped Podolski can provide increased firepower for Roberto Mancini s team, who have a solitary league win to their name since October.

Yet there have been some encouraging signs since Mancini returned for a second spell at the helm in time for November s 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Milan, not least the improved form of Mateo Kovacic.

The Croatia midfielder has been rejuvenated by Mancini s deployment of him in the number 10 role and scored in both…

More than three quarters of those games have come for Arsen…

He fits Liverpool – Keegan backs Klopp

Jurgen Klopp is the right man to lead Liverpool forward, according to club great Kevin Keegan.

The German manager has come under fire after an indifferent start to the season by Liverpool, who sit seventh in the Premier League.

Klopp has been in charge at Anfield since late 2015 but is yet to deliver a trophy, and familiar defensive problems have haunted his side so far this campaign.

But Keegan, who won three league titles and a European Cup with Liverpool in the 1970s, backed Klopp, saying the former Borussia Dortmund coach was the right man for the club.

I think he s a great manager. He fits Liverpool, he gets Liverpool, he said at an Aspire Academy event.

Keegan added: They are conceding goals and they say it s a bit like my [Newcastle] team,…
